Font Awesome Free (Web)

Font Awesome Free Web is the web-optimized package of the internet's most popular icon library, providing everything needed to integrate icons into websites and web applications. The package includes multiple integration methods: Web Fonts with CSS (classic approach using WOFF2 font files and CSS classes), SVG with JavaScript (modern approach rendering icons as inline SVG for pixel-perfect scaling and styling), individual SVG files for direct use, and SVG sprites for efficient bundling. Pre-compiled CSS and SCSS/SASS source files are included for easy customization. The free tier provides over 2,000 icons across three styles: Solid (fa-solid / fas), Regular (fa-regular / far), and Brands (fa-brands / fab). Icons use the familiar fa- prefix class syntax and can be sized, rotated, animated, stacked, and styled entirely with CSS. Font Awesome 7 brings significant web performance improvements including smaller webfonts via Brotli compression and CFF format, WOFF2-only delivery (dropping legacy TTF/WOFF), cleaner SVG output with fill=currentColor defaults, and CSS custom properties for Duotone color control. The npm package @fortawesome/fontawesome-free has over 2,000 dependent projects, and framework-specific components are available for React (@fortawesome/react-fontawesome), Vue (@fortawesome/vue-fontawesome), Angular (@fortawesome/angular-fontawesome), Ember, and more. Kits hosted on Font Awesome CDN offer zero-config setup with a single script tag. Font Awesome is also available via jsDelivr and cdnjs CDNs. The free icons are triple-licensed: CC BY 4.0 for SVG/JS icon files, SIL OFL 1.1 for font files, and MIT for code. Version 6 is now in Long Term Support (LTS) mode receiving critical bug fixes only.
